Fishing With Gang Hooks

As you may or may not have heard, gang hooks are an excellent way to present live fishing worms as bait when fishing (probably the most effective way ever created), but what you may not be aware of is that these unique fishing hooks are also effective when using other types of fishing bait as well. In this article we will discuss fishing with gang hooks and some of the ways that these unique hooks are put into practice on the water, other than of course the most popular way which involves rigging a live worm.

Other forms of live bait such as live minnows, crayfish, and even hellgramites can be rigged onto a set of gang hooks and used while employing various fishing techniques from drift fishing to fishing under a bobber or small float. To rig a live minnow #10 gang hooks seem to work best and the minnow is hooked through the lips with the first hook while the second hook is hooked through the minnows back or let "free" to hang near the body of the minnow itself.

Crayfish, which are admittedly a difficult live bait to use when fishing, are hooked once through the main shell, with the second hook of the set of gang hooks getting hooked into the tail of the crayfish. This way the crayfish can be fished in a deep pool or even drifted through a deep run in you favorite river. The size of the gang hooks that are used will vary depending on the size of crayfish that is being utilized as bait. Hellgramites are the same way and the size of the hooks will vary depending on the size of the hellgramite itself.

The bottom line is that gang hooks can be used virtually anywhere that traditional fishing hooks are and are outstanding hooks for many types of live fishing bait with the most popular being a live worm. When it comes to fishing worms (both live and synthetic ) gang hooks are really the best way that there is to rig them for fishing. The way that these fishing hooks enable the worm to be presented to the fish that you are fishing for in a completely natural and realistic manner makes them much more effective than virtually any other worm rigging option, there's no doubt about it.

Fishing with gang hooks can be done with many fishing techniques from drift fishing to float fishing and are even effective while bottom fishing in many situations. I have been using these unique fishing hooks for more than three decades and can't imagine not having them as part of my arsenal anytime that I head out to do a little fishing.
